MAC Address
Every “intelligent” ATI hub (i.e., hubs with management capability) is
provided with a factory-installed unique 6-byte (12-digit) Media Access
Control (MAC) address. This address includes a 3-byte (6-digit) company
identification number.
The MAC address is a unique number assigned to each node using the
network. These MAC addreses are used to resolve conflict when multiple
computers are trying to access the network simultaneously. This IEEE
physical storage location address resides in the MAC PROM and is
accessed through an ASCII terminal.
In order to make this address easily accessible and externally visible, a
MAC address label is etched on the vertical edge of the right-hand plastic
flap, as shown in Figure 5.
