AT-TS08 Connectivity

Normal Cascade
Port 8 is a dual-purpose port and has the label “NORMAL/CASCADE.”
You can use it in the following ways:
❑
To connect a network device, as you would any of the other ports
❑
To extend the network to another hub via a link segment. If you use
Port 8 as a cascade port, you may connect the other end of the link
segment to Port 1 or any other standard 10BASE2 port, as shown
in Figure 30.
10BASE2 Wiring Specifications
10BASE2 (or thinnet) requires a thin coaxial cable, RG58. RG58 is a 10
MHz, baseband cable connected with BNC-series connectors. The cable
must be terminated with 50
Ω
terminators and grounded at one end.
Maximum segment length is 185 meters (606 ft.).
The thinnet coaxial cable is plugged directly into the BNC receptacle for
Ports 1 through 8 located on the front panel. Next to each of these ports is
the 50
Ω
termination switch (see Figure 30). If you are installing a BNC-T
connector (like the one shown in Figure 31) in the middle portion of a
segment, you must disable the ports’ termination by turning the switch
OFF (0).
