CHECKING BATTERY FLUID
LEVEL
To check the battery fluid level:
u
Remove the battery cover, see page 63
(REMOVING THE BATTERY COVER).
u
Make sure that battery fluid level is between
the “
MIN
“ and “
MAX
“ marks on the battery.
If not so:
u
Remove the battery caps.
CAUTION
Top up with distilled water only. Do not
ex ce ed the “MAX“ ma rk , be ca use
battery fluid expands when the battery
is under charging.
u
Add distilled water until achieving correct
level.
CHARGING THE BATTERY
u
Remove the battery, see page 63
(REMOVING THE BATTERY).
u
Remove the battery caps (
only).
u
Check battery fluid level, see at the side
(CHECKING BATTERY FLUID LEVEL)
(
only).
u
Connect the battery to a battery charger.
u
Recommended charge rate is 1/10th of
battery capacity.
u
After charging the battery, check battery
fluid level again and top up with distilled
water if needed (
only).
u
Refit the battery caps (
only).
WARNING
W h e n y o u d i s c o n n e c t t h e b a t t e r y
charger, allow 5-10 minutes before
refitting the battery, as it will keep
producing gas for a few minutes.
INSTALLING THE BATTERY
u
Remove the battery cover, see page 63
(REMOVING THE BATTERY COVER).
u
Refit the battery (1) into its mount.
u
Connect the battery breather pipe (2)
(
only).
CAUTION
Always connect the battery breather pipe,
to prevent the sulphuric acid vapours from
corroding the electric system, painted
parts, rubber elements or gaskets when
they exit the breather pipe itself (
only).
u
Connect first the positive (+) and then
the negative cable (-).
u
Coat the terminals of cables and battery
with neutral grease or Vaseline.
u
Refit the battery cover, see page 63
(REMOVING THE BATTERY COVER).
