4-23 Rear Panel FM-Out Tests

Test Procedure

1.

Wait 60 msec for the PLL to settle, then wait 2sec for FSWP to complete the RMS Phase Deviation
measurement. Note RMS Phase Deviation (radians) shown in the FSWP “Summary” window.

2.

Calculate Peak Phase Deviation = sqrt(2)*(RMS phase deviation, rad). Calculate “Int WPM % Error” =
100*((Calculated Peak Deviation)/(640 rad) – 1).

3.

Record the result. If result is

≥

–4.5 % and

≤

4.5 %, Record “Pass” for Int WPM Accuracy, otherwise record

“Fail”.

4-23 Rear Panel FM-Out Tests

The rear panel FM Out tests is as follows:

FM-Out Accuracy, Ext FM

FM or

M modulating waveforms are presented at the rear panel “FM Out” BNC. Output amplitude is

calibrated to produce 2Vpp into a 50

Ω

load when Int FM mode is ON, and sinewave is selected as the

waveform. For External modulation, “FM Out” amplitude is is proportional to Ext FM/PM input amplitude,
and is calibrated to produce 2Vpp into 50

Ω

when Ext FM/PM amplitude is 2Vpp. Amplitude accuracy of “FM

Out” is not specified, but it should be checked for correct operation. Presently, RF must also be ON to enable
this output.

Test Setup

Connect equipment as shown in

Figure 4-11 on page 4-30

. A DVM is not needed on the Ext FM input. Instead,

connect the DVM to the Rear Panel “FM Out” BNC through at 50

Ω

pass-through termination.

External DVM:

Test Procedure

Note the DVM readout and MG362x1A FM deviation indication.

Calculate “Ext FM Out % Error” = 141.4*(DVM readout)*1 MHz/(FM deviation indication) – 100

3.

Record the result. % Error will nominally be within ±1 % if a precision 50

Ω

termination is used on the

FM Out port. A result significantly outside of ±1 % should be investigated.
