4-12 Max FM Deviation Tests

Test Procedure
1.
Set DUT and FSWP RF frequency per the following list, starting at the lowest freq:
2.6 GHz, 5 GHz, 10 GHz, 20 GHz
At each RF frequency, test max FM deviation for each of the mod rates in the following list.
2 MHz, 5 MHz, 7 MHz, 8 MHz

Set external function generator Frequency = mod rate from the list. Set FM ON. Wait 10 msec.

Check PLL lock status. If unlocked:

Report “Lock Fail” for the current mod rate. Set FM OFF.

Wait 10 msec.

Go to
7.
Wait approx 150 msec for FSWP to complete a full cycle of RMS Phase Deviation measurement.

Note PM RMS Deviation shown in the FSWP “Summary” window.

Calculate Peak FM Deviation = 1.414*(RMS Phase deviation)*(mod rate).
10.
If Peak FM Deviation is < 10.1024 MHz, increase FM sensitivity to 12 MHz/V, Otherwise, go to step
3.3.17.

Check PLL lock status. If unlocked:

Report “Lock Fail” for the current mod rate. Set FM OFF.

Set FM sensitivity = 11 MHz/V. Wait 10 msec.

Wait approx 150 msec for FSWP to complete a full cycle of RMS Phase Deviation measurement.

Note PM RMS Deviation shown in the FSWP “Summary” window.

Calculate Peak FM Deviation = 1.414*(RMS Phase deviation)*(mod rate).

If Peak FM Deviation is < 10.1024 MHz, increase FM sensitivity to 13 MHz/V, Otherwise, go to

Check PLL lock status. If unlocked:

Report “Lock Fail” for the current mod rate. Set FM OFF.

Set FM sensitivity = 11 MHz/V. Wait 10 msec.

Wait approx 150 msec for FSWP to complete a full cycle of RMS Phase Deviation measurement.

Note PM RMS Deviation shown in the FSWP “Summary” window.

Calculate Peak FM Deviation = 1.414*(RMS Phase deviation)*(mod rate).

If Peak FM Deviation is < 10.1024 MHz:

Report “Fail” for the current mod rate. Set FM OFF.

Set FM sensitivity = 11 MHz/V. Wait 10 msec.

Record the calculated Peak FM Deviation and FM sensitivity setting for the current mod rate.

If current mod rate is < 8 MHz, pick the next mod rate from the list and go to

If RF < 20 GHz, set next RF freq (from list in
), wait 25 msec, go to
, using mod rate = 2 MHz.

If no Fails have been reported for any of the mod rates at any of the RF test frequencies, indicate “Pass”
for the overall test.
