Step 11 Install Adapter Cards
The Excalibur PCI Pentium motherboard provides full compatibility with all IBM XT and AT-compatible adapter
cards via four ISA (AT-compatible) expansion slots. The Excalibur PCI Pentium motherboard also has three PCI
Local Bus expansion slots. A summary of the slots follows.
PCI Local Bus Expansion Slots
The PCI Local Bus expansion slot sockets are distinctly different than the standard ISA expansion slot sockets. These
slots obviously accept a different kind of adapter card than the standard ISA adapter cards. The slots are much more
compact and smaller. PCI Slot 1 and Slot 2 are master slots. Slot 3 is a slave-only slot.
ISA Adapter Cards
Two sets of pinouts are provided in the following pages for ISA expansion slot sockets.
The first is the 8-bit pinout that accepts PC- and XT-compatible adapter cards.
The second is the 16-bit extension to the 8-bit sockets that, together with the 8-bit sockets, accept 16-bit ISA adapter
cards.
