manual
introduces
GPIB
programming
for
the
E5100A/B .
It
provides
additional
information
on
how
to
write
programs
that
might
be
dicult
to
understand
when
using
only
the
GPIB
Command
Reference
.
It
also
provides
information,
techniques
,
and
examples
of
how
to
eectively
control
GPIB
instruments
.

use
this
manual
eectively
,
you
need
one
of
the

GPIB
controllers:
HP
Instrument

ASIC
(The
E5100A/B
has
this
function
unless
Option
UKR
Delete
HP
Instrument
B
ASIC
is
installed).
That
is
an
internal
GPIB
controller
in
the
E5100A/B .
An
HP
9000
Series
200
or
300
computer
that
has
HP
B
ASIC
3.0
or
later
.
The
HP
B
ASIC
3.0
must
have
the
GPIB
,
GRAPH,
IO
,
KBD
,
and
ERR
binaries
.
This
manual
helps
you
to
learn
how
to
write
programs
that
control
the
E5100A/B .

The
target
reader

is
a
programmer
who
wants
to
control
the
E5100A/B
through
the
GPIB
interface

This

ASIC.
Therefore
,
you
should
have
some
experience
using
B
ASIC.
If
you
have
never
written
a
program
in
B
ASIC,
review
the
applicable
documentation
listed
at
the
end
of
this
chapter
before
starting
this
manual.
This

does
not
require
extensive
knowledge
of

ASIC
programming.
