Returning Instruments for Service
Service Tag
If you are returning the instrument to Agilent Technologies for
servicing, fill in and attach a blue service tag. Service tags are supplied
in the back of this chapter.
Please be as specific as possible about the nature of the problem. If you
have recorded any error messages that appeared on the screen, or have
completed a performance test record, or have any other specific data on
the performance of the spectrum analyzer, please send a copy of this
information with the unit.
Original Packaging
Before shipping, pack the unit in the original factory packaging
materials if they are available. If the original materials are
unavailable, identical packaging materials may be acquired through
any Agilent Technologies Sales and Service Office. Descriptions of the
packaging materials are listed in
.
Other Packaging
CAUTION
Spectrum analyzer damage can result from using packaging materials
other than those specified. Never use styrene pellets in any shape as
packaging materials. They do not adequately cushion the equipment or
prevent it from shifting in the carton. They cause equipment damage by
generating static electricity and by lodging in the spectrum analyzer
fan.
Repackage the spectrum analyzer in the original packaging materials
or with commercially available materials described in steps 4 and 5,
below.
1. Attach a completed service tag to the instrument.
2. Install the front-panel cover on the instrument.
3. Wrap the instrument in antistatic plastic to reduce the possibility of
damage caused by electrostatic discharge.
4. Use the original materials or a strong shipping container that is
double-walled, corrugated cardboard carton with 159 kg (350 lb)
bursting strength. The carton must be both large enough and strong
enough to accommodate the spectrum analyzer and allow at least 3
to 4 inches on all sides of the spectrum analyzer for packing
material.
