Einführung
Die Wellenform, die Sie bei Rechtsanschlag von SHAPE hören, ist die sogenannte Rechteckwelle
(engl.: pulse wave), deren Schemazeichnung auf der Bedienfläche am besten die Wortbedeutung
erläutert. Sie zeichnet sich dadurch aus, dass der positive Ausschlag der Wellenform in seiner
Dauer identisch mit dem negativen Bereich ist: Sie besitzt eine sogenannte Pulsweite von 50%. Die
Rechteckwelle unterscheidet sich klanglich vom Sägezahn, indem nicht alle Obertöne der Natürli-
chen Obertonreihe vorkommen, sondern nur ungeradzahlige Harmonische, also die erste (der ton-
höhenstiftende Grundton), die dritte, die fünfte etc.. Indem Sie SHAPE von Sägezahn in Richtung
Puls drehen, blenden Sie faktisch jeden zweiten Oberton aus, was die technische Erklärung für die
zunehmende Aushöhlung der Klangfarbe ist.
Den Prozess der Klangfarbenänderung können Sie nun fortsetzen, indem Sie die Symmetrie der
Pulswelle vom Rechteck in Richtung schmalerer Pulse verschieben. Dies ist beim Virus durch den
Regler WAVE SEL/PW (PW = pulse width, engl. für: Pulsweite) möglich, SOLANGE SICH SHAPE IM
RECHTEN BEREICH SEINES REGELWEGS BEFINDET. Drehen Sie WAVE SEL/PW langsam von
links nach rechts, während SHAPE auf Rechtsanschlag steht. Sie hören dabei, wie die Klangfarbe
den Schwerpunkt ihres Klangspektrums aufwärts verlagert und dabei dünner wird. Am Rechtsan-
schlag verschwindet das Signal vollkommen, da die Pulsweite jetzt bei 0% liegt und dement-
sprechend keine Schwingung mehr erfolgt.
Drehen Sie SHAPE, vom Sägezahn (Mittelstellung) ausgehend, nach links. Sie hören dabei, wie die
Obertöne zunehmend ausgeblendet werden, bis nur noch der Grundton erklingt. Dies ist die sogen-
annte Sinuswelle, eine von 64 weiteren Wellenformen, die Ihnen als Ausgangsmaterial zur Verfü-
gung stehen. Diese Wellenformen sind ebenfalls durch WAVE SEL/PW (WAVE SEL: Abk. f. Wave
Select, engl. f.: Wellenformauswahl) zu wählen, jedoch nur SOLANGE SICH SHAPE IM LINKEN
BEREICH SEINES REGELWEGS BEFINDET. Alternativ dazu können sie jedoch auch – unabhängig
von der aktuellen SHAPE-Stellung – im EDIT-Menü unter Oscillator 1 WAVE eingestellt werden.
Hören Sie nun die einzelnen Wellenformen an. Die zweite der 64 Wellenformen ist ein Dreieck (engl.:
triangle wave); die restlichen Wellenformen enthalten unterschiedliche Klanganteile in ver-
schiedenen Mischverhältnissen.
Ziehen Sie, nachdem Sie sich mit den puren Ausgangsspektren vertraut gemacht haben, auch die
mittlerweile geläufigen Parameter der Bereiche FILTERS und AMPLIFIER hinzu (vergessen Sie dabei
auch SATURATION und den damit zusammenarbeitenden Regler OSC VOL nicht), um ein Gefühl
dafür zu entwickeln, wie die einzelnen Wellenformen sich bei Filterung, Sättigung und Lautstärkefor-
mung verhalten.
