Eine weitere Signalquelle des Virus ist auf der Oberfläche nicht sichtbar: der Rauschgenerator. Er ist
in seinem Pegel und in seiner Klangfarbe einstellbar (NOISE Volume und Color im OSCILLATOR-
EDIT-Menü). In der Mittelstellung von NOISE Color (+0) erzeugt der Rauschgenerator weißes
Rauschen. Bitte beachten Sie, dass der Pegel des Rauschgenerators nicht der Summenregelung
durch OSC VOL unterliegt, so dass er auch dann hörbar ist, wenn OSC VOL auf Null steht.
Die fünfte Klangquelle im Virus ist ein Ringmodulator. Er multipliziert die Signale von Oszillator 1 und
2 und erzeugt dadurch u.a. interessante inharmonische Spektren, die hochgradig abhängig vom
Frequenzverhältnis der beiden Oszillatoren (veränderbar z.B. mit OSC 2 SEMITONE) und den
Wellenformen der Oszillatoren (z.B. Sinus Wave) sind.
Das Signal des Ringmodulators kann über den Parameter RINGMODULATOR Volume eingeblendet
werden (im OSCILLATOR-EDIT-Menü). Wenn RINGMODULATOR Volume Null ist, dann ist der Ring-
modulator abgeschaltet. Das Signal des Ringmodulators wird wie das Signal des Noisegenerators
nicht über OSC VOL geregelt, so dass die Originalsignale der Oszillatoren separat vom Ringmodu-
lator ausgeblendet werden können. Testen Sie den Ringmodulator auch mit der Sinuswelle auf
Oszillator 1 und 2.
Nun ist es an der Zeit, Sie über den Signalfluss der FILTER-ROUTING-Betriebsart SPLIT aufzuk-
lären: Hier erhält das erste Filter den Oszillator 1 und den Suboszillator, während Filter 2 durch
Oszillator 2 und den Rauschgenerator gespeist wird. Diese Aufspaltung der Klangquellen in zwei
Signalwege beeinflusst jedoch nicht ihre Pegelungsmöglichkeiten; auch OSC VOL bleibt in seiner
Funktion erhalten.
Die LFOs
Zu Anfang unserer Klangexperimente haben wir Ihnen versprochen, dass im Virus viele Funktionen
zu automatisieren sind. Tatsächlich wissen Sie jetzt bereits, dass neben der Lautstärke und den
Grenzfrequenzen beider Filter auch die Tonhöhe von Oszillator 2 wie auch die Intensität seiner Fre-
quenzmodulation über Hüllkurven zu steuern sind.
Das allein kann jedoch nicht befriedigen, denn zum einen haben Sie mittlerweile einige weitere
Funktionen kennengelernt, deren Automation gewinnbringend sein könnte; zum anderen sind Hül-
lkurven als Modulationsquellen sicherlich ergiebig, benötigen aber jedesmal eine neue Note, um
aktiv werden zu können. Daher mag bei Ihnen bereits der Wunsch aufgetreten sein, über anderweit-
ige Steuerungsverfahren zu verfügen, die – unabhängig von Noten – die jeweilige Funktion perio-
