AM/FM Stereo Tuner
– Prior to connecting the heater leads to a given socket, unscrew and remove the standoff
adjacent to pins 3/4 or 4/5. This will facilitate access to the pins.
– Open the “Heater Circuit Wire” package and cut one 5-inch long green #22 heater wire.
Connect one end of the wire to pin 4 on the V51 socket. Solder. Cut one piece of heat-
shrink tubing and slide it onto the wire so it covers the pin. Process, being careful to not
use too much heat.
– Find one of the heater chokes (RFC51/52). Trim the leads so it fits comfortably between
the socket of V51 and the 3-post terminal strip. Slip a piece of heat shrink-tubing on one
lead. Connect to pin 5 of V51. Solder. Slide the heat-shrink tubing in place and process,
being careful to not use too much heat.
– Replace the standoff removed from the V51 socket. The screws should be finger-tight.
Remember to include the lockwasher on the component side of the board. The heater leads
should straddle the standoff.
– Loosely twist the wire and the choke lead together and route to the 3-post terminal strip.
Place the wires above the circuit board at socket level.
Examine the 3-post terminal strip. Numbering of the positions is as follows: 1 (the post facing
C55), 2 (the ground post), and 3 (the post facing the cutout. Make certain that the posts are bent at
a 90-degree angle to reduce the overall height of the terminal strip. Remember the posts must be
clear of the chassis when installed.
– Connect the green wire from pin 4 of V51 to post #1. Do not solder.
– Connect the choke lead from pin 5 of V51 to post #3. Do not solder.
– Cut one 5-inch long green #22 heater wire. Connect one end of the wire to pin 4 on the
V52 socket. Solder. Cut one piece of heat-shrink tubing and slide it onto the wire so it
covers the pin. Process, being careful to not use too much heat.
– Find the remaining heater choke (RFC51/52). Trim the leads so it fits comfortably
between the socket of V52 and the 3-post terminal strip. Slip a piece of heat shrink-tubing
on one lead. Connect to pin 5 of V52. Solder. Slide the heat-shrink tubing in place and
process, being careful to not use too much heat.
