– Identify pins 4 and 5 on the V4 tube socket. Temporarily remove the standoff adjacent to

these pins.

– Twist the wires from V5 together and route to socket V4 (see Figure 5.2

for placement).

The wires should be placed at socket-level. Do not dress the wires against the PWB.

– Trim one of the wires as needed to comfortably reach pin 4 of V4. Trim the other wire to

comfortably reach pin 9 of V4.

– Slip a piece of heat-shrink tubing over the wire to pin 9. Crimp the wire on pin 9. Do not

solder.

– Cut a 4-inch piece of heater wire. Slip one end through the heat-shrink tubing on the lead

already connected to pin 9 of V4. Route the wire to the pin and crimp in place. Solder,

keeping the heat-shrink tubing away from the hot wires and the soldering iron. Leave the

other end free for now; it will be connected later.

– Slide the heat-shrink tubing into position at the base of the socket on pin 9. Apply a stream

of hot air to shrink the tubing over the pin. Be careful to not use too much heat.

– Cut a 2-inch piece of heater wire. Slip one end through the heat-shrink tubing on the lead

already connected to pin 4 of V5. Route the wire to the pin and crimp in place. Solder,

keeping the heat-shrink tubing away from the hot wires and the soldering iron.

– Slide the heat-shrink tubing into position at the base of the socket on pin 4. Apply a stream

of hot air to shrink the tubing over the pin. Be careful to not use too much heat.

– Place a piece of heat-shrink tubing over the free end of the 2-inch long wire from pin 4 of

V4. Connect to pin 5 of V4. Do not solder.

– Cut a 3-inch piece of heater wire. Slip one end through the heat-shrink tubing on the lead

already connected to pin 5 of V4. Route the wire to the pin and crimp in place. Solder,

keeping the heat-shrink tubing away from the hot wires and the soldering iron.

– Slide the heat-shrink tubing into position at the base of the socket on pin 5. Apply a stream

of hot air to shrink the tubing over the pin. Be careful to not use too much heat.
