AM/FM Stereo Tuner

While adjusting C63, a peak should be observed. If not, L53 may be compressed or expanded 

to change the resonant frequency. Push (compress) the windings to increase the operating 

frequency; spread the windings (expand) to decrease the frequency.

– After C57 and C63 have been adjusted, repeat the steps above to fine-tune the settings.

A small amount of drift will normally be noticed during warm-up of the FM tuner but it 

should stabilize quickly. Usually, the drift will be noticeable only on weak stations.

At this point, the tuner should be able to pick up local FM stations with little more than a short 

piece of wire connected to the antenna terminals on the back panel.

Although it is quite difficult to accurately measure the overall frequency response of the FM 

tuner without specialized test equipment, the typical response of a properly aligned tuner of this 

type is shown in Figure 7.3. Note that this figure refers to the monophonic output.

7.2.2 Multiplex Section

The following procedures require an accurate signal generator, ac voltmeter, oscilloscope, and 

optionally a frequency counter.

– Remove power from the tuner. Connect the signal generator common lead to a convenient 

ground point on the tuner. Connect the hot lead to the junction of C73/C74/R69 (

Test 

Point D

).

– Connect the scope and voltmeter to the junction of D51/D52/R92/R94 (

Test Point C

).
