Note: The 8-inch soundome comes standard
with the Ram Hoist, see Part D. If there is
not enough overhead clearance for a Ram
Hoist, a special-order lead screw hoist may
be used. To determine the minimum length
of a soundome tube for an 8-inch soundome,
measure the length of the seachest and Add:
12.7 cm (5 inches) for an 8-inch soundome
Allow at least 10.2 cm (4 inches) of clearance between
the top of the soundome tube and the overhead when
the soundome is in the raised position.
When the proper length of soundome tube is deter-
mined, measure from the threaded end, cut, and file
the rough edges off.
If overhead clearance is adequate, the soundome
tube may be left uncut.

ATTACHING SOUNDOME
TUBE TO SOUNDOME
2.1 Check Soundome Clearance
Before threading the soundome tube into the soundome, check
to ensure there is clearance to allow the soundome to
move freely up and down in the seachest. Soundome may
be handled by the soundome cable to check clearance.
It may be necessary to fi le down the fi ns of the soundome
so it fi ts into the seachest. The clearance around the
soundome should not be greater than 1.6 mm (1/16 inch).
2.2 Attaching Soundome Tube to Soundome
Place the jam nut on the soundome tube.
If the Seachest is above the waterline, the threads do not need
to be sealed. For seachest below the waterline, wrap the
threads with tefl on tape or use Permatex Thread Sealant
with Tefl on, Part Number 14H.
WARNING
Do not use bonding compound when threading the soundome
tube into the soundome. Chemicals in the bonding
compound will weaken the neck of the soundome.
Run the soundome cable through the soundome tube, starting
at the threaded end.
WESMAR’s Optional Long Stroke
Hydraulic Hoists
To get longer range and better performance
from your HD800 when moving fast or in rough
waters, order the sonar with a Hydraulic Hoist.
Air is a perfect sonar target, and will scatter
sound energy. Under normal fishing conditions
and high speeds, air bubbles often reach a
thickness under the vessel that can surround
the soundome and affect performance. Wind
also creates bubbles at the water’s surface.
WESMAR’s Hydraulic Hoists get below the
air bubbles to keep the soundbeam clear
and provide high performance.
