4. Allow the detector to warm up for at least 30 minutes before operating.

3.2.7.2
Recording sample and reference beam energies
To determine baseline values on your detector for future reference, and to monitor
lamp aging (decreased lamp output energy), you must record the baseline sample
and reference beam energies to compare against future readings. Use these baseline
values to troubleshoot the detector to determine whether
•
the solvent is contaminated;
•
the flow cell is contaminated;
•
the lamp needs to be replaced;
•
an air bubble is in the flow cell.
To record the sample and reference beam energies:
1. Ensure that the detector is connected to the workstation.
2. Flush the system tubing using degassed, HPLC-grade acetonitrile at the
recommended flow rate.
3. Pump mobile phase for 15 minutes or more.
4. Ensure the detector cell is filled with solvent and free of air bubbles.
5. When both LEDs show constant green, initialization is complete. Start the data
application.
6. On the absorbance screen, use the arrow keys to highlight the
λ
field.
7. Enter 230 into the
λ
field, and then press Enter.

8. Press DIAG and then press 2, Sample & ref energy. The sample and reference
energy diagnostic display appears.
