12.2.3

Checking the needle plate

The cover must be cleaned of lint and sewing dust regularly. It is also

important to clean the space underneath the needle plate in order for the

cover to feed the fabric smoothly and for the thread to run smoothly.
Regularly clean the two feed dogs under the metal needle plate as the cover

cannot feed the fabric in case of excessive contamination.
Cleaning instructions for your sewing machine can be found on our W6

WERTARBEIT website under “Help”.
Check whether the needle plate shows needle strikes or other damage. If

necessary, smooth these marks with fine emery paper. In the event of

excessive damage, the needle plate must be replaced. You can order a new

needle plate via our W6 shop under “Spare parts”.
If your needle plate is damaged, the fabric can no longer be fed correctly. If

there are needle strikes on problematic areas, the threads will no longer be

able to unwind smoothly and therefore jam the hooks.
The following illustration shows an example of a severely damaged needle

plate that must be replaced.
