9. Testing electrical devices/equipment in accordance
with DIN VDE 0701-0702 and ÖVE/ÖNORM E 8701
A visual inspection of the test object must be carried out before the test. If damage is found, the
test must be aborted.
a) Testing devices of protection class 1
• Testing of devices with protective conductor and accessible conduc-
tive parts that are connected to the protective conductor.
• Connect the test object to the test socket (1) on the GT-6000.
• Insert the 4 mm safety connector of the test lead with alligator clip
into the 4 mm safety socket (9) and establish a connection with a
metal part on the test object.
• In mains mode (protective conductor current by means of the differ-
ential current measurement method, test object in operation), con-
nect the mains cable with the in-built connector (11) on the GT-6000
and the safety plug to an earthed socket (230 V, 50 Hz, 16 A).
If necessary, the test voltage of the R
ISO
measurement (in-
sulation resistance) can be reduced to 250 V DC with the
button (5). The selected test voltage is briefly shown on the
display. Pressing the button (5) again switches back to the
preset test voltage of 500 V DC.
• Switch the test object on.
• Press the button (2) to start the automatic test sequence.

• The test begins with the measurement of the protective conductor

is greater than 1 Ω, the measured value of R

is shown on the display and
an X symbol appears next to the R
PE
symbol. “FAIL” appears on the display to
confirm that the measurement has been stopped.
• If R

is higher than the permissible limit value (≤ 0.3 Ω up to a length of
5 m) but lower than 1 Ω, the measured value is displayed without a rating. The
“tAble” symbol is displayed and the test sequence stops.
• Test personnel must then decide whether or not the displayed measured value is acceptable based on the limit
value table and on the length of the lead on the test object.
