5.2 Recording Control
There are three storage options for recording images with SmartDisc:

Continual recording with predefined recording speed
■
Event-controlled recording with a specified number of images
by means of an external sensor or by means of the integrated
motion detection
■
Time-controlled recording by means of the internal timer
The four control inputs on the control interface are assigned to one camera
each. All four input states can be used to control the device and can be con-
figured differently. The opened and closed states are used to control the con-
tinual recording. The opening and closing of the contacts triggers event-con-
trolled recording.
Continual Recording
For continual recording, two different recording speeds can be set depending
on the state
HIGH or LOW of the control input.
LOW and HIGH The logical state HIGH corresponds to an open control input, LOW to a
grounded (closed) input.
Continual recording

The archive setting ON in the field HIGH should be used if constant recording
is desired with no external control wiring.
For continual recording with the archive setting
LOW / ON , the relevant cam-
era control input must be grounded.
Example The device can be configured to record 1 image per second when the contact
is open and 4 images per second when the contact is closed.
Event-controlled Recording
The use of event-controlled recording has two advantages over continual re-
cording:

The recording duration is increased many times depending on
the frequency of events. While the hard disk is normally filled
within a matter of days when recording continually, the use of
event-controlled recording can extend this period to several
months.

Only relevant data is recorded. This makes it easier to evaluate
the image data.
