Secondary brake actuation
A safety-stop means that the secondary brake was triggered by a
hoist malfunction or suspension rope breakage, for example.
DANGER!
Danger of severe injuries caused by incorrect proce-
dures!
–
Keep calm.
–
Check out the cause.
–
Eliminate the problem.
If the problem was caused by the hoist malfunctioning:
–
Take suitable measures to secure the load lifting equipment
in place so that the hoist can be changed.
If the problem was not caused by the hoist malfunctioning:
–
Try to move upwards.
If this is not possible:
–
Securing the load lifting equipment (see above).
If it is possible to move upwards then a secondary brake mal-
function has probably occurred.
See Fig. 6.
–
Move upwards slightly to reduce the strain on the rope.
–
Open the secondary brake: Turn the manual lever (1)
clockwise until it latches into place.
–
Move downwards.
–
Press the SAFETY-STOP (1) button while moving down-
ward.
If the load is not held:
–
Take suitable measures to secure the load lifting equipment
in place so that the hoist can be changed.
–
Remove the hoist and send it to TRACTEL Greifzug GmbH
or an authorized hoisting gear workshop for inspection.
If the load is held:
–
Move upwards slightly to reduce the strain on the rope.
–
Open the secondary brake: Turn the manual lever (1)
clockwise until it latches into place.
–
Move the load lifting equipment carefully downwards and be
ready to press the SAFETY-STOP button on the secondary
brake at any time.
After every safety-stop:
See '10.8 Measures to be taken after a problem or safety-stop'
on page 19.
If necessary:
–
Remove the hoist and send it to TRACTEL Greifzug GmbH
or an authorized hoisting gear workshop for inspection.
10.4
Activation of the secondary brake
Activation means that the secondary brake was triggered either
manually or by vibrations.
–
Move upwards slightly to reduce the strain on the rope.
–
Open the secondary brake: Turn the manual lever (1)
clockwise until it latches into place.
An inspection is not needed after an activation.
10.5
Emergency descent
The load lifting equipment can be lowered manually in the event
of a power failure.
DANGER!
Risk of being injured by falling objects!
You are only allowed to lower the load in manual mode in an
emergency.
–
The hoist must always be tested by TRACTEL Greifzug
GmbH or a hoisting gear workshop that has been author-
ized by TRACTEL Greifzug GmbH after an emergency
descent.
–
Any damaged or worn part found must always be re-
placed.
Risk of being injured by falling objects!
The centrifugal brake might not brake the load in case of
overloading!
–
In the event of overloading, never open the service brake
(spring-applied brake) manually.
The centrifugal brake prevents rope speeds that are too high
when lowering manually.
See Fig. 27.
–
Remove the lever (1) from the anchoring.
–
Insert the lever (1) into the brake bracket through the slot in
the hood of the motor (2).
–
Lift and hold the lever.
The load is lowered.
–
Let go of the lever to brake.
–
Anchor the lever again after use.
–
Send the hoist to the manufacturer for testing or repair or
send it to a specialist hoisting gear workshop.
10.6
Switching off when overloaded
Hoists with a mechanical or electrical load limiting device:
The hoist's load limiting device has been set up in the factory to
activate with a maximum permitted overload of 125% of the
maximum working load.
A warning signal will be sounded or a warning light will come on
when it is switched off.
