Adjusting the Parking
Brakes
Adjust the service brakes when there is more than
13 mm (1/2 inch) of free travel of the brake pedal, or if
the brakes slip. Free travel is the distance the brake
pedal moves before you feel braking-pedal resistance.
1.
Prepare the machine, refer to
Maintenance (page 43)
.
2.
Release the parking brake.
3.
Use the wheel-motor backlash to rock the drums
back and forth to ensure that they are free, prior
to and after the adjustment.
4.
Lightly press the brake pedal; and measure the
distance the pedal moves without resistance

).
Note:
Adjust the brakes if there is more than
2.5 cm (1 inch) of free travel (
) of the
brake pedal, or if more parking-brake force is
required.
