sudden  events.  The  optimum  setting  strongly  depends  on  the  systems  thermal  behavior  and
thermal load. As can be seen in the figure below, only D-share would always lead to overshoots. 

Settling behavior of a pure D controller

When used in combination with the P-share, the D-share is used to minimize the overshoots
caused by the P-share.  By optimizing all three shares, a very fast settling to the desired
temperature can be achieved without oscillation of the system:

below:
