Software Installation
The soundcard is installed completely by means of the software. However, the actual installation
depends on the type of operating system which is used. In addition, it is also significant whether
there is plug-and-play capable BIOS in the computer. Let us therefore proceed in sequence:
Plug-And-Play (PNP) BIOS
As soon as a PNP card is inserted in an expansion slot of the computer, the BIOS checks what
type of equipment is represented by this card while the computer is being booted, and also
checks which input/output addresses, interrupts and DMA channels can be used. If there are
several PNP cards in the system, the resources in the computer are distributed over the
expansion cards without any conflict. In this case, you do not need to pay any great attention
to the settings if you have an operating system which can take these values from the BIOS. It is
of course then necessary to install the applications and drivers under the corresponding
operating system.
Windows 95
If a PnP BIOS is present, the figures from Windows 95 are used. When the operating system is
started, Windows prompts for a disk of the manufacturer. Insert the Windows 95 driver disk
and follow the instructions on your screen. The default values for the various resources are
displayed on the screen, and they can be changed at any time at a later date when necessary.
You have to install the audio applications separately, as Windows 95 does not permit drivers
and programs to be installed simultaneously. When the installation procedure has been
completed, you are prompted to reboot Windows. Before you do so, you should reduce the
volume control on your stereo system or the active speakers in order to ensure that you are not
surprised by an excessively high level. You can then easily adjust the volume with the software
mixer and your system.
For software installation insert the disk labelled „Software“ into your disk drive choose „Start“
and then „Run“ and type „A:\SETUP“ into the command line. Follow the instructions on the
screen.
If your soundcard package includes the TerraTec Driver CD-ROM as opposed to floppy
discs, please follow the instructions on the Quick Reference Guide.
DOS/Windows 3.X
DOS and Windows are not able to automatically install PnP hardware. DOS therefore provides
installation software which is activated with „A:\SETUP“ (as well as under Windows). This pro-
gram automatically selects the standard settings for IRQ, DMA and the I/O address. The start
files CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT, SYSTEM.INI and WIN.INI are also updated. The soundcard
