Downgrading software
Impact on new features
VCS software versions X3 and X4 introduced a number of new features.
Downgrades to version X3
Should you install VCS version X4 and then subsequently downgrade to version X3, all new
functionality will be lost. In addition, you must note the following:
Root account password
After downgrading to X3.0, the password for the
root
account will be changed to be the same as the
password for the default
admin
administrator account.
Root account access
After downgrading to X3.0, access to the
root
account will be available from Telnet, SSH and the
serial connection.
Downgrades to versions prior to X3
Should you install VCS version X4 and then subsequently downgrade to version of the VCS software
prior to X3, all new functionality will be lost, but in addition you must note the following:
Encrypted passwords
Any passwords that existed prior to upgrading to X4, and any that were subsequently created,
will be deleted upon downgrade to a version prior to X3. The password for the default
admin
administrator account will revert to the default of
TANDBERG
.
Clustering
After downgrading from X4 to a version prior to X3, peers in a cluster will no longer share
information about bandwidth, presence, and FindMe. They will revert to treating each other as
Alternates.
Call tags
Call tags are added or recognized by VCS software prior to X3. Once you downgrade from X4 to a
version prior to X3 any call tags received from other VCSs will be deleted and not forwarded on.
Logging levels
If you have Event Logging set to Level 4, after downgrading from X4 to a version prior to X3 the
Log
Level
will be set to
Level 3
.
Downgrade procedure
The procedure for downgrading software is essentially the same for
upgrading software
, except for
the software image being used.
Prerequisites
The downgrade requires you to have:
a valid release key.
•
a software image file.
•
You should already have obtained these when the previous version of the software was installed on
your VCS.
Backing up current configuration
The VCS’s existing configuration will be restored after performing a downgrade, with the exception
of those configuration items relating to new features introduced in X4.
However, we recommend that you make a backup of the configuration before downgrading. An
automated backup feature was introduced in X4, but note that this will only allow you to restore the
backed up configuration to a VCS running the exact same version of software. See the
Backup and
Restore
section for full details.
