IP CONFIGURATION
Each TalkSwitch unit in a multi-location network must be configured with
both local and public IP address information. These addresses are used to
direct VoIP calls to the appropriate location. Each TalkSwitch unit at a
location will have a different local IP address, but will share a common public
IP address.
Setting the local IP address
Set a local IP address for each TalkSwitch unit using the
Unit IP Address
box
in the
System Information > IP Configuration
page.
By default, the TalkSwitch units use DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration
Protocol) to automatically obtain the local IP address and other system IP
settings from the DHCP server. The router typically acts as the DHCP server.
In this case, the
System IP Settings
area of the
IP Configuration
page is
automatically completed. Select
Use the following IP and DNS information
to
‘lock in’ these settings, and then ensure they are saved to the TalkSwitch
unit.
If the location does not have a DHCP server, the
System IP Settings
area will
not be completed. Select
Use the following IP and DNS information
, and then
complete the
IP Address, Subnet mask, Default Gateway, Preferred DNS Server,
and
Alternate DNS Server
boxes.
Setting the public IP address
Set a public IP address for the location, using the
Public WAN IP Address
area
in the
System Information > IP Configuration
page. See
A location has up to four TalkSwitch units that comprise a TalkSwitch
system. Each of the TalkSwitch units at a location shares the public IP
address. The public IP address of a TalkSwitch system is assigned by your
Internet Service Provider.
Depending on the type of service, the public IP address will either be
dynamic or static. If you are unsure which type you have, contact your
Internet Service Provider.
