Static-Sensitive Devices
Static-sensitive electrical discharge can damage electronic components. To
prevent damage to your system board, it is important to handle it very carefully.
The following measures are generally sufficient to protect your equipment from
static discharge.
Precautions
•
Use a grounded wrist strap designed for static discharge.
•
Touch a grounded metal object before you remove the board from the anti-
static bag.
•
Handle the board by its edges only; do not touch its components, peripheral
chips, memory modules, or gold contacts.
•
When handling chips or modules, avoid touching their pins.
•
Put the system board and peripherals back into their anti-static bags when not
in use.
•
For grouonding purposes, be sure your computer system’s chassis provides
excellent conductive contact between its power supply, case, the mounting
fasteners, and the system board.
Unpacking
The system board is shipped in anti-static packaging to avoid static damage.
When unpacking the board, be sure the person handling the board is static-
protected.
