3 Applications
3.1 LT Mode Testing
In LT mode, the test set emulates the switch (LT) located in the
central office. This mode can be used to troubleshoot ISDN basic
rate and IDSL circuits by looping U-BRITE cards, U-repeaters, or
the NT1 device. Follow this procedure to emulate an LT.
1. Enter IDSL/ISDN BERT for IDSL testing.
2. Enter TEST CONFIGURATION and configure as follows:
INTERFACE: U
MODE: LT-144K
Tx Clock: EXT-U
Note: Timing synchronization is extremely important when
testing IDSL circuits. Many IDSL circuits are transported
through digital loop carrier systems before they are fanned
out to individual customer premises. These IDSL circuits are
typically slave timed from the network clock running on the
digital loop carrier. If testing an IDSL circuit that is transported
through a carrier system, select an external clock source for
the test set, so it will be synchronous to the network clock. If
a IDSL 2B1Q output signal from the DSLAM is present, select
EXT-U. If a T1/E1 signal carrying the proper network clock is
present, then select EXT-T1 or EXT-E1 as appropriate.
TEST CHANNEL: 2B+D (more, F2)
TEST PATTERN: 2047 (press SELECT to change patterns).
3. Connect the test set to the IDSL circuit. Connect the 2B1Q U
interface span to the U-2B1Q jack on the module. If an external
timing source was selected, plug the timing reference into the
appropriate port. If using timing from the U interface, connect
the IDSL output from the DSLAM or switch into the U EXT
CLK module port.
4. Note the LEDs on the test set. T1/E1 SIG should now be green
indicating a signal from the U interface. LP 1 SYNC shows the
status of synchronization. This should be green, indicating that
the test set has achieved Layer 1 frame sync. If it is red, the
test set does not have frame sync.
5. Press ESC and select IDSL/ISDN BERT > EOC CONTROL to
loopback an NT1 or repeater (U-Brite card) and run a BER test.
A. At ADDRESS, press NEXT (F2) until the address at the
right displays the equipment to be looped. First, loop up
the NT1 device to test the whole 2B1Q span. If errors are
present, then try looping each U-repeater/ U-BRITE card
on the span to sectionize the problem. To loop up the NT1,
make sure ADDRESS reads 0 (NT1).
