2.4.2 Call Setup
Use these screens to place a call and send data. There are two
types of virtual circuits in an X.25 network: switched (SVC) and
permanent (PVC). An SVC requires a call setup, a PVC does
not. For this reason, the setup screen for an SVC call contains
settings related to call setup and clearing, while the PVC screen
does not.

The following setup items pertain to SVC and PVC calls:

LCN
Options: 1-4095
The Logical Channel Number identifies the channel to use to
setup your virtual circuit.

CALL TYPE
Options: SVC (F1), RESTART (F2), RESET (F3), SND MSG
(F4)
• SVC: The test set supports SVC calls. An SVC requires a call

setup (like a telephone call) between the calling and called
DTEs. The connection is established which creates the virtual
circuit, data is transferred, then the connection, as well as the
virtual circuit, is cleared.

• RESTART: Resets all PVCs held by the test set. All incoming

and outgoing data for that DTE will be erased. After pressing
RESTART, “Restart Confirmed” should be displayed.

• RESET: Sends a Reset Request Packet that resets the packet

sequence count (the sent, P(S) and received P(R)) to 0.

• SND MSG: Send a data packet. The test set transmits two dif-

ferent data packets: “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy
dog” and “SUNRISE TELECOM A step ahead!”. The data packet
alternates each time SND MSG is pressed.
