19. Cut two lengths of 1/32” ID plastic tubing 2” long and install in lower holes provided along bottom of former F8 –
this tubing should install flush with the former F8 and run directly aft centered to the slots in the bottom of FB3.
This tubing will act as a guide and bearing for the rudder pull/pull system to be installed when finishing the
model. Refer to photo and plan sheet for more detail.
20. Assemble the strake and tail wheel. Follow the instructions on the plan sheet for assembling the wire
components of the tail wheel / gear assembly. Sandwich the complete assembly within parts F20a (ply), F20
(balsa), F20a (ply) as illustrated below. To install tail wheel simply slide over axle and retain with a single 90
degree bend in the excess axel length.
21.
If you have not done so already. Wick thin CA glue along all of your part joints that were tack glued together.
Final sand the fuselage – Tip! Sand the Hatch and fuselage components together. Sand flush any overshoot
tabs as in the case of F1 to FB1. Sand the forward most portion of the fuselage to match tapered sheeting at
F1. Test fit the styrene cowl and canopy. Tip! Make certain to sand a slight bevel in the aft end of the fuselage
at F8 extending aft to make for a gentle transition to the Rudder surface and prevent control horn binding. Sand
tail surfaces as required for proper fit to fuselage.
Do not sand the inside of the elevator slot of the
fuselage assembly. ERRATA! Some plan sheets call for an aluminum crimp to retain the tail wheel – we no
longer recommend this. Instead follow the above methodology.
