Final Assembly Continued
Tail Surfaces Continued
128. Use a warm soldering iron to melt and press down the posts, forming a
“rivet” over the retention plates. Further secure the control horns by wicking
medium CA around the retention plates and the base of the control horns.
129. Open the covering over the mounting slots on both sides of the horizontal
stabilizer.
130. Fit the tabs along the bottom of the vertical stabilizer through the slots in the
horizontal stabilizer, then through the holes in F18. Ensure that you have
the correct side of the horizontal stabilizer facing up, and that the elevator
control horn is extending from the
lower
left
side of the elevator.
Ensure
that the stabilizing surfaces are perpendicular to each other and the
fuselage, then bond them in place with medium CA.
Pushrods
131. Take one 18 in. length of 1/32 in. wire and make a 90 degree bend 3/16 in.
from one end.
132. Open the covering over the exit slots and feed the straight end of the wire
through the pushrod housing until it extends into the radio compartment and
through the E/Z Connectors on the servos.
133. Cut two 1/8 in. lengths from the supplied silicone tubing. They will be used
to “safety” the pushrods when they are connected to the control horns.
134. Slide the silicone band over the pushrod where it exits the fuselage.
Connect the pushrod to the OUTER hole of the control horn using a DuBro
E/Z Link [DUB849]. Start with the outer holes, then move to the inner holes
after you become comfortable with the flight characteristics of the model.
Safety the E/Z Link by sliding the silicone band over it, thus preventing the
link from coming loose from the pushrod.
135. Electronically center the servos by connecting them to the receiver, turning
on your system, and centering all the trims. Again, check that the control
arms on the servo are perpendicular to the servos 90 degrees. Remove
them and reposition them if needed. Now, center the control surfaces, and
tighten down the E/Z Connectors to secure the pushrods. Trim the pushrods
about 1/2 in. beyond the servo control arms.
