Fuselage Continued
24. Wrap the
upper
portion of the
left
fuselage side to nest within recess along
upper
portion of former F9. Gently lift F20 to allow the notches in the
fuselage side to fit under the tabs in F20.
Tack glue the fuselage side to
former F9 only.
25. Follow the same process as in step 24 to wrap the
right
fuselage side
against F9.
Tack glue side to F9 only.
Ensure F20 and fuselage sides
seat flush with each other, and bond F20 to the fuselage sides, formers F10,
F9 and the spine F19. A portion of the fuselage sides may extend aft of
former F9, if so, sand fuselage side overhang flush with aft surface of F9.
26. Fit and bond part F21 to the
front
of F20 and the fuselage sides.
27. Fit the pre-cut stringers to the notches in the fuselage sides, formers F9,
F16, and F17. Hold rear portion of the fuselage down on a flat surface and
bond stringers with thin CA. (Two extra stringers have been provided on the
cut sheets... just in case.)
28. Use the 3/16 in. x 3-3/4 in. dowel supplied in your kit to register parts
through the hole in the spine F19 immediately behind former F9. Slide parts
F22, four on each side, onto the dowel.
Note: four of the F22’s have
horizontal grain, the other four have vertical grain. Alternate these pieces
when placing them on the dowel to create a cross-grained block of wood.
29. Tack glue parts F22 to each other and to former F9 with medium CA.
Ensure that the dowel is not bonded.
Remove the dowel
, and wick thin
CA between and around parts F22, F9 and the spine F19.
30. Turn the fuselage over and fit the fuselage bottom F23 to formers F9, F16,
F17, and the fuselage sides. Turn the fuselage
right
side up and hold it
down on a flat surface, ensuring that the aft end of fuselage is not twisted.
Bond all mating surfaces between bottom, sides, and formers with thin CA.
31. Bond bottom sheeting F24 to fuselage sides immediately behind, and
tabbing into, former F2.
