12. Check the plastic clamp ring insulators are in place.
8.5 Lubrication
The following lubricants are recommended for maintenaing the Compatt 6.
Assembly
Lubricants
Subconn and Micro-Subconn connectors
Molykote 44 Medium
O-ring seals
Petroleum Jelly
Table 8–1 Lubricants
8.5.1 Subconn Connectors
Note
Follow the connector manufacturer’s recommended procedure for installing, inspecting, cleaning
and lubricating the connectors.
The connectors should be cleaned and lubricated using the manufacturer’s recommended lubricant
“Molykote 44 Medium” before each mating.
CAUTION
Molykote 44 is a mild irritant. When lubricating the connector faces, personal protective
equipment such as gloves and goggles must be worn.
1. Make sure the connectors are clean and dry.
2. Clean using a spray based contact cleaner (isopropyl alcohol).
3. Lubricate the connectors as follows:
a. Apply a layer of grease to the female connector corresponding to a minimum 1/10th of socket
depth.
b. The inner edge of all sockets should be completely covered, and a thin layer of grease left
visible on the face of the connector.
c. After greasing, fully mate the male and female connector to optimise distribution of the
grease on pins and in sockets.
d. Confirm that the grease has been sufficiently applied by de-mating and checking that grease
is present on every male pin.
e. Re-mate the connectors.
8.5.2 Endcap O-Rings
Endcap O-rings should always be inspected and lubricated before fitting the endcap.
Note
Ensure the area you are working in is clean and dust free.
1. Check the O-rings for cuts and nicks and replace if damaged.
2. Avoid forcing O-rings over threads, sharp corners or other sharp objects (if necessary mask any
areas to protect the O-ring during fitting).
