Appendix A. Installation Choices
A–2
Changing MCS-to-Workstation Connections
Use this section to change connections between an MCS
and MCS workstations. You can change cable
connections, MCS port configurations, and connection
methods.
❐
Cable connections
In addition to the COM1 cable, you can add RS-232
octocable connections. You can connect as many as
eight additional workstations to each RS-232
module. To connect an RS-232 octocable, see
page 2–14.
However, you can connect a workstation to the COM2
port (DTE) with a 25-pin-to-25-pin cable you supply,
as described on page C–6.
❐
MCS port configurations
The following ports are preconfigured for a direct
connection at a transfer rate of 9600 bps:
■
P1
on an RS-232 octocable
■
COM1 and COM2
You can change the configuration attributes of these
ports through the MCS module configuration
function. For example, you can change the
P1
connection method from direct to dialed, and change
the transfer speed from 9600 to 4800 bps.
Additionally, you can create configurations for the
P2
through
P8
ports on an RS-232 octocable, which are
not configured.
To configure modules, refer to the
Administration Guide.
