Unencumbered lines accented by
efficient, long-throw switch handles,
handsome 22mm to available 30mm
chrome-accented pilot devices,
performance monitors, and windows
where required, reveal the understated
quality of Siemens’TIASTAR MCC.
A precursor to the quality inside, the
TIASTAR MCC enclosure (UL rated
to withstand short circuit ratings of
42,000 amps standard, with optional
ratings up to 100,000 amps) is a tower
of strength, tall, slim and decidedly
strong. Made of heavy-gauge steel and
protected by a thick layer of corrosion-
resistant industrial paint, it is designed
to retain its shape and attractiveness
for years. And it must, for within are some
of the most sophisticated combination
motor controls and related devices
ever created.
A Modular, Open Design Invites
Customization
Behind the hinged doors exists a
horizontal and vertical bus of the best
design and quality. Available in two
options — isolated, or insulated and
isolated — the system’s backbone
is made stronger by rigid framing and
section barriers of 14-gauge steel. A
stronger, safer, more accessible design.
A tin-plated copper bus with double-
bolt line connectors provides a solid
foundation for securing lines. Once
initial connections are made, conical
Belleville washers ensure that they
stay secure no matter the degree of
expansion or contraction. But should
they need attention, they are fully
visible and accessible from the front.
A removable, clear Lexan® window,
which makes for easy viewing and
infrared scanning, isolates horizontal
bus bars from the top horizontal
wireway.
Available horizontal bus options include
600 through 2,500 amp ratings, and
available vertical bus options include
ratings ranging from 300 to 600 amp.
Also, vertical ground bus is available
with load ground terminals, reducing
installation costs when using multi-
conductor cables.
A feature others should adapt because
it is in the customer’s best interest:
TIASTAR bus is rated for a 50-degree
temperature rise. This alone does
wonders for extending component life.
But no matter, Siemens’ components
are designed to perform under the
most severe conditions imaginable.
Your Needs Are Easily Configured
Siemens’ combination motor control
units are designed as self-contained
modular units in sizes increasing by
6 inches vertically from a base of
12 inches up to 72 inches. Plug-in
units are very easy to install. They
come with rear-mounted, self-aligning
copper stabs that firmly grasp onto
the bus. Racking levers aid the process
and are an important safety feature.
An optional ground bus stab is used
with vertical ground bus.
Adjustable shelf brackets support the
units; however, for very large units or
ones rated for over 250 amps, a fixed
mounting is used. Brackets also guide
the placement of units, further assuring
positive engagement with the bus.
Thanks to pre-wiring and generous
wireways, on-site installation of your
custom Siemens TIASTAR MCC is
a breeze. And it goes without saying
that all wiring and components meet
or exceed the applicable requirements
of UL, CSA, NEMA, EEMAC and
NEC. Having it your way has never
been easier.
