Scanning Procedure
Usually, it is helpful to first scan a document off-line-that is, without host
transfer of the data to determine the optimum scanning parameters. You
can make use of the new Echo Scan key to make such changes more easily
when scanning documents with varying image quality and contrast.
1. Set up the Scanner (and Host, if any) with the proper scanner Firmware
options.
Refer to "The Options Key" on page 2-19 for more information about
setting these scanner options. Refer to the Host's documentation for
information about its appropriate hardware, firmware, and software
option settings.
2. Set the first four Scan Parameters-Speed, Pos/Neg, Resolution, and
Size.
Since these parameters cannot be changed during a scan, it is best to set
them correctly before loading the document to be scanned. Refer to
"Parameter Control Keys - Green" on page 2-10 for more information.
3. Load the document.
You can do this in either automatic or manual mode. In either case,
refer to "Loading the Document into the Scanner" on page 2-27 for
more detailed information.
4. Observe the Preview Display monitor to see what data is being detected.
If desired, you can Zoom In or Zoom Out for a better look.
Refer to "Preview Display Control Keys-Orange" on page 2-3 and
“Preview Display Control Procedure” on page 2-5 for complete
information on controlling the Preview Display monitor.
5. Set the remaining four Scan Parameters-Filter, Tracking, Lighter, and
Darker-until the image is of optimal overall quality.
Refer to "Parameter Control Keys - Green” on page 2-10 for more
information. These keys vary the amount and quality of data being
captured.
6. If necessary, press the Echo Scan key to rescan problem areas until the
optimal Scan Parameter settings are obtained.
