The Background Noise Filter: for Gap Filling and Speckle
Removal
The Background Noise Filter (also referred to as the Binary Filter)
provides Gap Filling and Speckle Removal for image data in the Binary
data format. It electronically fills in gaps in faded or worn image areas
and filters out the background on documents which are "dirty" with small
unwanted specks.
The Background Noise Filter has two states that are controlled by the
Filter key:
•
On
Use this setting for documents that need speckle removal or gap
filling to enhance image quality.
•
Off
Use this setting for documents with excellent image quality.
It is possible to further adjust the "On" setting by using the A, B, C, and D
keys to select the filter's active pixel area. These settings affect the level
of image enhancement. Refer to "Background Noise Filter Settings" on
page 2-15 for more information.
Background Noise Filter Settings
When the Background Noise Filter is turned on, you may define the filter's
active pixel area to adjust its image enhancement capabilities. The greater
the active pixel area, the more data will be changed to enhance the quality
of the image scanned.
The keys for adjusting the Background Noise Filter are colored gray and
shown in Figure 2-6.
