The Auto Key
The Auto key toggles the scanner's automatic mode between off and on.
•
When this mode is on, the Auto key's red LED is continuously lit and
the scanner is in automatic mode.
•
When off, the Auto LED is off and the scanner is in manual mode.
Automatic Mode
Automatic mode provides the means to load a document and ready the
scanner. The scanner will then wait for a signal to start, begin scanning
when that signal is received, and then stop scanning when the entire
document has passed the scan window. Three document sensors, one
located at the opening of the scanner, another just before the scan window,
and a third just after the scan window, are used to monitor the location of
the document.
Set the scanner to automatic mode by pressing Auto, and then place the
document on the scanner bed and carefully insert it into the scanner. The
document will engage with the transport rollers, which feed the document
in and load it automatically, stopping just short of the scan window. Here,
the document awaits the start of a scan (through either the Scan key or a
signal from the host), and the Scan key's LED blinks. After Scan is
pressed or the signal to start scanning is received from the host, the Scan
LED will be continuously lit, the document will move across the scan
window, and data will be collected by the scanner cameras. The scanner
will automatically stop when the document has passed the scan window.
Manual Mode
In manual mode, the Auto LED is not lit and the document sensors are not
used. You must start the scanner via the host or the Scan key to start the
transport system and then feed the document in. When Scan is pressed,
the Scan LED is continuously lit, the scanning cameras are activated, and
data collection begins immediately. The transport system and scanning
cameras will continue to run until the scan is halted by either the host or
by pressing Scan again.
