To reduce the potential for kickback
and serious injury, move the fence out
of contact with the workpiece when
cross-cutting to prevent the workpiece
from binding between the fence and
the blade .

You can mount an optional wooden extension
to the miter gauge face to provide additional
support for workpieces. To mount the
extension, use wood screws with shanks
sized to fit through the slots in the miter
gauge head. The wood face should be at
least 1” (2.5 cm) higher than the maximum
depth of cut, and should extend beyond the
edges of the miter gauge head.
