Top Power
It refers to the top pulse power.
The top pulse power is defined statistically. With the peak power as the
reference, the point with the highest frequency in the range of 5 dB below
the peak power is defined as the top power.
Bottom Power
It refers to the bottom pulse power.
The bottom power is calculated as per the same method as the top power. With
the minimum pulse power as the reference, the point with the highest probability
in the range of 12 dB below the minimum power is defined as the top power.
PAR
The ratio of the peak power to the average power in the window is displayed.
In the log display mode, it is equal to the peak power minus the average power.
Overshoot
It refers to the difference between the peak power and the top power.
The measurement of pulse parameters is based on that of waveform display parameters in the window. Not all the
parameters can be displayed in one mode. During test, please pay attention to the restricted conditions for automatic
measurement of various parameters in Table 3.4, and refer to relevant settings in “3.4.2 Peak power measurement and
waveform display” to complete the accurate test of various pulse parameters.
3.4.2 Peak power measurement and waveform display
This section introduces in detail the methods for measurement of the pulse signals and rapid observation of the
parameters of various pulse envelopes with the S2438 microwave power meter set at Channel A and connected to a
S81703D power sensor.
The signal generator is set with a frequency of 5 GHz, a power of +10 dBm, a pulse period of 20 us and a pulse width of
10 us.
The specific operation steps are as follows:
1) Connect the zeroed and calibrated S81703D power sensor to the signal generator output port;
2) Set [Menu]>[Display] >[Disp Mode] >[Trace A] to display the waveform;
3) Set [Menu]>[Trigger] >[A TrigMode] >[Continue Trig], [Settings] >[Trig Source] >[Chan A], [Trig Mode] >[Auto],
[Trig Level] > [0dBm], [Trig Slope] >[-] to complete the setting of the trigger menu;
4) Set [Window] to switch from small window display to medium window display;
5) Set [Trace Set] >[Vert Cent] >[-10dBm], [Vert Scale] >[10dB/], [Trig Pos] >[Mid], [X Scale] >[5us/] to complete
display of several waveforms;
