Configuring PoE Configuration

For example, you can run the following commands in turn to enable the PoE function on port 1 of line card 1:

By default, the PoE function is enabled on Ruijie access and convergence switches. On the PoE line cards of Ruijie
core switches, however, the PoE function is disabled.
If you run the
interface range
command to set the PoE function on a batch of ports at one time, enabling or disabling
the PoE function on one port will affect the power management of the entire switch, because the
interface range
command sets ports one by one. Therefore, ports may be up and down time and again in the configuration process.
This is normal.
Setting the Power Management Mode
The power management mode is the mode by which power is allocated to connected PDs. PoE switches support three
power management modes: auto mode, energy-saving mode, and static mode.
In auto mode, a PoE switch allocates power to PDs according to the classes of PDs detected on ports. It allocates power
supply to PDs of various power classes as follows: 15.4 W for Class 0, 4 W for Class 1, 7 W for Class 2, 15.4 W for Class
3, and 30 W for Class 4. In auto mode, the PoE switch allocates 15.4 W to a port if the power class of the PD on the port is
Class 3, even if the actual power consumption is 11 W only. By default, the PoE switch allocates power in auto mode.
In energy-saving mode, the PoE switch dynamically adjusts power allocated to PDs according to the actual power
consumption of PDs. In this mode, the PoE switch can supply power to more PDs but the power supply of other PDs may
be affected because of power fluctuation of some PDs. The energy-saving mode is an optional mode for a PoE switch. If a
PoE switch does not support the energy-saving mode, a message will be displayed during configuration, indicating that
the PoE switch does not support the energy-saving mode.
In static mode, the PoE switch allocates power according to users' configurations and certain power must be allocated to
each port. If power is allocated to none of the ports after the PoE switch changes to the static mode, the system
automatically allocates power to each port. You can also configure the allocated power by running the
poe alloc-power
command. If the power of the PoE switch is not enough to allow for all ports, the power is allocated to ports in an
ascending order of the port number, till the power is completely allocated. The static mode is an optional mode for a PoE
switch. If a PoE switch does not support the static mode, a message will be displayed during configuration, indicating that
the PoE switch does not support the static mode.
