Step 3:
In Step 3 the measurement settings are selected.
•
If stronger signals are expected, select -20 dB or even -30 dB at
Gain Control
.
For very weak signals select the +25 dB setting.
In case of frequently changing signal levels the
A
utomatic
G
ain
C
ontrol (
Fast
, i.e. with FFM also
Medium
/S
low
) may be the preferred choice.
•
Keep the measurement period for scans as short as possible, select
≤
1 ms for fast scans.
•
Demodulation is not important during a scan.
•
For fixed frequency measurements also
Frequency
and
Offset
can be selected or - alternatively
Audio
. In this case the demodulated audio signal will be directly recorded on the UMS100/120. For
this purpose a demodulator must be switched on which is not possible at this point. Please refer to
chapter 2.4.3.
•
If there is an active connection to the UMS100/120 during AMM, the continuous measurements can
then be shown in the form of a graph. You can select the graphic type here.

Step 4:
In the last but one configuration window, set when and if measurement values are to be
saved
as well
as if and how an
alarm
is to be triggered automatically at the Control PC. in the center. The <Alarm>
button opens a window for this purpose. Here the essential things are now defined for automatic
operation.
•
If measurement results are to be saved on the UMS100/120 the
Measurement Time
preset must
be taken into account. A continuously running measurement creates huge amounts of data and the
memory runs at full capacity. Besides fast scans, this can occur particularly when there are
continuous audio recordings (see Section 2.4.1).
What may be more important is that the large amounts of recorded data must also be “moved” from
UMS100/120 to the Control PC using an extremely slow interface. For example, a limited audio
recording with RF level takes at least approx. one minute to transfer, even with a fast LAN
connection. Using a GSM connection a transfer would take approx. 6 hours.
