2.3.1 Gain Control

The available settings for

Gain Control

allow

an attenuation of the input signal up to -30 dB as well as

an amplification of up to +25 dB to adapt the UMS100/120 to various measurement activities.

For an automatic adoption (AGC) it is possible to select

•

Fast (1 ms)

•

Medium (10 ms, only in FFM) and

•

Slow (100 ms, only in FFM)

2.3.2 Overload Indicator

For all manual measurements an overload indicator is available.

In case that the antenna input level reaches a critical value, where the pre-amplifier could produce
intermodulation or more critical, the analogue-digital-converter could be overdriven, the indicator color is
changing from green as shown above to red.

CAUTION

Performing a wide frequency scan (see next chapter) beginning with 100 kHz, step width of
20 MHz and wide IF bandwidth of 1 MHz the following effect can be seen:
In the area of the start frequency (100 KHz) the frequency of the local oscillator is within the
IF bandwidth of 1 MHz so that as a result a very strong level of about 130 dB

displayed. Even with a selected attenuation of -30 dB the overload indicator will be still on.
This is a normal effect that can be observed with every receiver with corresponding
settings.
