2.6.6 NEW FUSING UNIT DETECTION (G031 ONLY)
The fusing unit in the G031 maintenance kit has this detection mechanism (the
fusing unit obtained as a service part does not). When the fusing unit has been
replaced, the CPU detects the new unit and automatically removes the “Replace
Maintenance Kit” from the display and resets the maintenance counter.
NOTE: The G032 doesn’t have this mechanism, so after replacing the fusing unit,
clear the “Replace Maintenance Kit” status using the “User Menu –
Maintenance – PM Clear” procedure.
There are two terminals [A] at the rear left side of the fusing unit. Before
installation, these terminals are in contact [C]. When the machine is turned on after
installing the new fusing unit, the projection on the ring [B] attached to the left end
of the hot roller disconnects the terminals [D]. When the CPU detects the change in
the signal from these terminals from ‘shorted’ to ‘open’, the CPU recognizes that a
new fusing unit has been installed and it then resets the counter and the display.
