Software Components
1.3.1
Overview
The radar software consists of several components. The following components are identified:
A radar server package of software that handle the digitization of the video signal, image
processing and target tracking and association.
The radar client software provides the visualization of the radar system
RH Marine sensor management converts serial NMEA data to the network and vice versa and
communicates this data to/from the radar server (e.g navigational sensor data, ECDIS route data,
and alarm data).
Infrastructure software is used for ensuring and monitoring the integrity of all software running on
each PC and the status of the network (if applicable). This also includes minimizing applications that
are not in the foreground, which lowers total CPU load and prevents applications interfering with
each other.
1.3.2
Sensor management
RH Marine sensor management is responsible for
Converting serial NMEA data to TCP/IP and vice versa
Communicating data to/from the radar server (e.g nav sensor data, ECDIS route data, alarm data
Validation of NMEA inputs
Data selection & automatic switch-over in case multiple sensors provide the same type of data (e.g.
2x Gyro compass or GPS and bottom-track system).
1.3.3
Infrastructure management
The infrastructure tasks are primarily responsible for ensuring & monitoring the integrity of the other
software tasks. Application Manager software runs on each PC, while each system has 1 (stand-alone) or 2
System Managers (compact/integrated) running.
Application Manager
The Application Manager executes the following tasks
Automatic start-up of the software modules that have to run on a specific system.
Providing system status data
Ensuring that in an integrated environment with multi-purpose workstations the minimum HMI
requirements are met (at least on one station a Conning application will be on top).
System Manager
System Manager is a module that monitors and exchanges alarm and status from the various application
managers. Furthermore it monitors and possible alarms on network integrity.
Time synchronization
The system clocks on all PCs are synchronized by 2 applications:
1.
Time server (present on all sensor servers)
2.
NTP client (on all other PCs)
These applications have no direct link to the other software components. The time synchronization ensures
the consistency of all time-related data across the system (such as time stamping of alarms).
