Cleaning and Sterilization Guide
for medical devices
Preliminary operations:
•
Polydentia’s products are always supplied non-sterile. For safe and optimal use always clean, disinfect and
sterilize your product prior to use
•
Check and inspect your equipment regularly. Always refer to manufacturer’s instructions when using your
equipment
•
Please note that regulations may vary depending on the country where you are living. Always refer to the
regulation applicable in your country
•
Materials may alter over time. Sterilization or exposure to chemicals can accelerate this deterioration. Always
check your product for wear and damage before use
•
Avoid contact of dissimilar metals at any point during the cleaning and sterilization process
Cleaning:
Products should be cleaned as soon as possible after use to prevent soils from hardening
1.
Remove visible debris or organic matter with a disposable wipe or surface brush. This has to be done by
scrubbing with warm tap water and soap or detergent
2. Inspect instruments for debris on surfaces. Repeat cleaning step 2 if there are still debris
3. Immediately soak in an appropriate disinfecting solution, following the manufacturer’s instructions
4.
Alternatively to point 4, an ultrasonic bath cleaner with an appropriate cleaning and disinfecting agent can be
used, in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Please assure that the medical device has the relevant
symbol on the packaging
5. Rinse the medical device with warm tap water
6.
Alternatively to points 2 to 6, a thermo disinfection with an appropriate cleaning agent can be used in
accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Please assure that the medical device has the relevant symbol
on the packaging
7.
Dry the medical device, then place them in an autoclave tray, or in a sterilization pouch (see Sterilization
instructions step 2 below)
Sterilization:
1.
Sterilization is not a substitute for proper cleaning. Clean the instrument fi rst (see section Cleaning) and
afterwards sterilize it
2. Place the medical device in an autoclave tray, or in a sterilization pouch
3. Sterilize in a steam autoclave using distilled water and at the temperature specifi ed on the relevant symbol
4. Do not use chemical autoclave or cold sterilization solutions
5. Avoid direct contact with the metallic part of the autoclave
