TRANSMISSION

8.6

19. Mark orientation of bellcrank to the shift fork shaft.

20. Remove bellcrank.

Use a small puller if

necessary.

21. Remove snap ring and washer. Pull down and

rotate shift fork shaft back and forth to remove.

22. Inspect shift fork shaft O-ring. Replace if necessary.

Lubricate O-ring to ease in reassembly and to

protect O-ring during assembly.

23. Clean all components in a parts washer and

inspect for wear.

24. Inspect engagement dogs of gears and replace if

edges are rounded.

25. Inspect gear teeth for wear, cracks, chips or

broken teeth.

26. Remove seals from transmission case.

NOTE:

New seals should be installed after the

transmission is completely assembled.

27. Inspect bearings for smooth operation. Check for

excessive play between inner and outer race.

4X4 TRANSMISSION
REASSEMBLY

1. Install pinion shaft assembly.

2. Install retainer plate with flat side toward bearing.

3. Apply Loctite

272 (Red) to bolts and torque to 18

ft. lbs. (25 Nm).

4. Install front output shaft cover and ring gear

assembly.
