Switching the speaker system
If you selected Speaker B in
Surround back speaker
setting
on p age 56, th r ee s p eake r system settings a r e
p ossible using SPEAKERS . If you selected Normal o r
Front Bi-Amp , the button will sim p ly switch you r main
s p eake r system on o r off. The o p tions below a r e fo r the
Speaker B
setting only.

• Use SPEAKERS on the front panel to select a
speaker system setting.
As mentioned above, if you have selected Normal , the
button will sim p ly switch you r main s p eake r system (A)
on o r off.
P r ess r e p eatedly to choose a s p eake r system o p tion:

SP

A
– Sound is out p ut f r om s p eake r system A and
the same signal is out p ut f r om the pr e-out te r minals.
•
SP

B
– Sound is out p ut f r om the two s p eake r s
connected to s p eake r system B. Multichannel
sou r ces will not be hea r d. The same signal is out p ut
f r om the su rr ound back channel pr e-out te r minals.
•
SP

AB
– Sound is out p ut f r om s p eake r system A (u p
to 5 channels, de p ending on the sou r ce), the two
s p eake r s in s p eake r system B, and the subwoofe r .
The sound f r om s p eake r system B will be the same as
the sound f r om s p eake r system A (multichannel
sou r ces will be downmixed to 2 channels).
•
SP
 (off) – No sound is out p ut f r om the s p eake r s. The
same sound is out p ut f r om the pr e-out te r minals
(including f r om you r subwoofe r , if connected) as
when selecting s p eake r system A (above).
Bi-amping your speakers
Bi-am p ing is when you connect the high f r equency d r ive r
and low f r equency d r ive r of you r s p eake r s to diffe r ent
am p lifie r s fo r bette r c r ossove r p e r fo r mance. You r
s p eake r s must be bi-am p able to do this (having se p a r ate
te r minals fo r high and low) and the sound im pr ovement
will de p end on the kind of s p eake r s you’ r e using.
1 Connect your speakers as shown next page.
This illust r ation below shows the connections fo r bi-
am p ing you r f r ont left s p eake r . Hook u p you r bi-am p
com p atible s p eake r s fo r othe r channels in the same way.
• Make su r e that the + / – connections a r e pr o p e r ly
inse r ted.
2 Select the ‘Front Bi-Amp’ setting from the ‘Surr
Back System’ menu.

Caution
• Most s p eake r s with both High and Low te r minals
have two metal p lates that connect the
High
to the
Low te r minals. These must be r emoved when you a r e
bi-am p ing the s p eake r s o r you could seve r ely
damage the am p lifie r . See you r s p eake r manual fo r
mo r e info r mation.
• If you r s p eake r s have a r emovable c r ossove r netwo r k,
make su r e you do not r emove it fo r bi-am p ing. Doing
so may damage you r s p eake r s.
Note
1 • The subwoofe r out p ut de p ends on the settings you made in Manual speaker setup on p age 55. Howeve r , if SP  B is selected above, no sound
is hea r d f r om the subwoofe r (the LFE channel is not downmixed).
• De p ending on the settings in Surround back speaker setting on p age 56 out p ut f r om the su rr ound back pr e-out te r minals may change.
• All s p eake r systems (exce p t Speaker B connections) a r e switched off when head p hones a r e connected.
