2 Select the setting you want to adjust.
If you a r e doing this fo r the fi r st time, you may want to
adjust these settings in o r de r :
• Surr Back System – S p ecifies how you a r e using you r
su rr ound back s p eake r s (see
Surround back speaker
setting below).
• Speaker Setting – S p ecifies the size and numbe r of
s p eake r s you’ve connected (see below).
• Channel Level – Adjusts the ove r all balance of you r
s p eake r system ( p age 57).
•
Speaker Distance
– S p ecifies the distance of you r
s p eake r s f r om the listening p osition ( p age 58).
• X-Curve – Adjusts the tonal balance of you r s p eake r
system fo r movie soundt r acks ( p age 58).
• THX Audio Setting – S p ecifies whethe r you a r e
using a THX s p eake r setu p ( p age 58).
3 Make the adjustments necessary for each setting,
pressing RETURN to confirm after each screen.
Surround back speaker setting
• Default setting: Normal
The r e a r e seve r al ways you can use the su rr ound back
s p eake r channels with this system. In addition to a
no r mal home theate r setu p whe r e they a r e used fo r the
su rr ound back s p eake r s, they can be used fo r bi-am p ing
the f r ont s p eake r s o r as an inde p endent s p eake r system
in anothe r r oom.
1 Select ‘Surr Back System’ from the Manual SP
Setup menu.

2 Select the surround back speaker setting.

Normal
– Select fo r no r mal home theate r use with
su rr ound back s p eake r s in you r main (s p eake r
system A) setu p .

Speaker B
– Select to use the (su rr ound back) B
s p eake r te r minals to listen to ste r eo p layback in
anothe r r oom (see
Speaker B setup
on p age 60).
• Front Bi-Amp – Select this setting if you’ r e bi-
am p ing you r f r ont s p eake r s (see
Bi-amping your
speakers
on p age 61).

ZONE 2
– Select to use the (su rr ound back) B
s p eake r te r minals fo r an inde p endent system in
anothe r zone (see
MULTI-ZONE listening
on p age 63).
3 When ‘Setting Change?’ is displayed, select Yes.
If No is selected, the setting is not changed.
You will r etu r n to the Manual SP Setup menu.
Speaker Setting
Use this setting to s p ecify you r s p eake r configu r ation
(size, numbe r of s p eake r s and c r ossove r f r equency). It is
a good idea to make su r e that the settings made in
Automatically setting up for surround sound (MCACC &
Full Band Phase Control)
on p age 9 a r e co rr ect.

Note that
this setting a pp lies to all MCACC pr esets, and cannot be
set inde p endently.

2 Choose the set of speakers that you want to set,
then select a speaker size.

• Front – Select LARGE if you r f r ont s p eake r s
r e pr oduce bass f r equencies effectively, o r if you
didn’t connect a subwoofe r . Select
SMALL
to send
the bass f r equencies to the subwoofe r .
• Center – Select LARGE if you r cente r s p eake r
r e pr oduces bass f r equencies effectively, o r select
SMALL
to send bass f r equencies to the othe r
s p eake r s o r subwoofe r . If you didn’t connect a cente r
s p eake r , choose
NO
(the cente r channel is sent to
the f r ont s p eake r s).
• Surr – Select LARGE if you r su rr ound s p eake r s
r e pr oduce bass f r equencies effectively. Select
SMALL
to send bass f r equencies to the othe r
s p eake r s o r subwoofe r . If you didn’t connect
su rr ound s p eake r s choose NO (the sound of the
su rr ound channels is sent to the f r ont s p eake r s o r a
subwoofe r ).

1 If you’ r e using a THX s p eake r setu p , set all s p eake r s to SMALL .
2 If you select SMALL fo r the f r ont s p eake r s the subwoofe r will automatically be fixed to YES . Also, the cente r and su rr ound s p eake r s can’t be
set to LARGE if the f r ont s p eake r s a r e set to SMALL . In this case, all bass f r equencies a r e sent to the subwoofe r .
