Auto playback
The r e a r e many ways to listen back to sou r ces using this
r eceive r , but fo r the sim p lest, most di r ect listening o p tion
is the Auto Su rr ound featu r e. The r eceive r automatically
detects what kind of sou r ce you’ r e p laying and selects
multichannel o r ste r eo p layback as necessa r y.

• While listening to a source, Press , then
press AUTO/ALC/DIRECT (AUTO SURR/ALC/STREAM
DIRECT)

AUTO SURROUND

showing the decoding o r p layback fo r mat. Check the
digital fo r mat indicato r s in the f r ont p anel dis p lay to see
how the sou r ce is being pr ocessed.

• If the sou r ce is Dolby Digital, DTS, o r Dolby Su rr ound
encoded, the pr o p e r decoding fo r mat will
automatically be selected and shows in the dis p lay.
• When listening to XM Radio, the XM HD Su rr ound
featu r e is selected automatically (see
Using XM HD
Surround
on p age 54 fo r mo r e on this), and also when
listening to the FM Radio, the Neu r al THX featu r e is
selected automatically (see
Using Neural THX

p age 52 fo r mo r e on this).
ALC
– In the Auto level cont r ol (ALC) mode, this r eceive r
equalizes p layback sound levels.
OPTIMUM SURR – In the O p timum Su rr ound mode, this
r eceive r automatically o p timizes sound balance in each
scene based on actually set volume. The sound balance r
cont r ols th r ee majo r theate r sound elements dialogue,
bass and su rr ound with o r iginal algo r ithm.
Tip
• When an
ALC
is selected, the effect level can be
adjusted using the EFFECT p a r amete r in Setting the
Audio options
on p age 82.
Listening in surround sound
Using this r eceive r , you can listen to any sou r ce in
su rr ound sound. Howeve r , the o p tions available will
de p end on you r s p eake r setu p and the ty p e of sou r ce
you’ r e listening to.

Standard surround sound
The following modes pr ovide basic su rr ound sound fo r
ste r eo and multichannel sou r ces.
