Determining the speakers’ application
Su rr ound sound with a st r ong sense of pr esence can be
enjoyed by connecting 7 s p eake r s and 1 subwoofe r . It is
also p ossible to achieve high sound quality using bi-am p
connections and to enjoy music in othe r r ooms using the
MULTI-ZONE featu r e. High sound quality can be
achieved with a minimum of two s p eake r s.
• Be su r e to connect s p eake r s to the f r ont left and r ight
channels ( and ).
• The Surr Back System setting must be made if you
use any of the connections shown below othe r than
[1] (see
Selecting the Surr Back system
on p age 24).
[1] 7.1ch surround connection
(Simple connection & Best surround)
*Default setting
These connections pr io r itize su rr ound sound with a
s p eake r layout like that in a movie theate r .

Surr Back System setting: Normal (default)
• If you have six s p eake r s, eithe r only connect one
su rr ound back s p eake r (6.1 ch su rr ound), o r connect
fo r the 7.1-channel setting as shown on the diag r am
below but without the cente r s p eake r .
[2] 5.1ch surround & Front Bi-amping connection
(High quality surround)
Bi-am p ing connection of the f r ont s p eake r s fo r high
sound quality with 5.1-channel su rr ound sound.

[3] 5.1ch surround & ZONE 2 connection
(Multi Zone)
With these connections you can simultaneously enjoy
5.1-channel su
rr ound sound in the main zone with ste r eo
p layback on anothe r com p onent in ZONE 2. (The
selection of in p ut devices is limited.)

With these connections you can simultaneously enjoy

p layback of the same sound on the B s p eake r s.

Other speaker connection
• You r favo r ite s p eake r connections can be selected
even if you have fewe r than 5.1 s p eake r s.
• When not connecting a subwoofe r , connect s p eake r s
with low f r equency r e pr oduction ca p abilities to the
f r ont channel. (The subwoofe r ’s low f r equency
com p onent is p layed f r om the f r ont s p eake r s, so the
s p eake r s could be damaged.)
•
After connecting, be sure to conduct the Auto
MCACC (speaker environment setting) procedure.
