CONNECTING BATTERY SIMULATOR CHANNELS IN SERIES
Each channel of the 41-752 is fully isolated from PXI ground and from each other, allowing users to connect channels
in series and simulate battery stacks typically seen in automotive electric drive systems.
To connect the channels in series, simply connect the positive terminal of one channel to the negative terminal of
another. In a typical application 16 modules can be connected in series to simulate a 96 channel battery stack.
Pickering Interfaces recommends that the 6 channels of the 41-752 are wired together (so each module provides a
contiguous stack of 6 battery channels in series) in order to make the operation of the system easier to understand
and to minimize the inter-channel voltage on each module. It also provides a more logical behaviour in using the
Interlock System and minimizes wiring lengths.
The sense connections on each channel can either be left uncommitted, in which the battery simulator will regulate
the voltage at the user terminals or connected to a load. If the wring length is short when connecting in series this
is usually the best method. However, the channels at the extreme ends of the chain can connect their sense line
(positive at the positive end of the chain, the negative at the negative end of the chain) to a reference point (typically
the load or the defined battery interface).
When using battery channels in series it is recommended that all the battery channels are turned on and set to a
realistic output voltage. The behaviour of battery channels when turned off, as described in the following section,
should be noted.
